That’s why an oven stinks
If your oven smells unpleasant, there are various reasons for this.
- Food residues on the bottom, sides, or on the heating rods can be responsible for the smell.
- If you have cleaned the oven but not removed the cleaning agents thoroughly enough, unpleasant vapors will form when the oven is heated.
- If you use an older sponge for cleaning, parts may come loose and remain in the oven. These residues will burn off the next time you heat them up.
- A new stove must be properly burned in before use. Here, too, there are initially strong odors.
Burn in the new oven before use
A new device may still contain residues of grease or paint from production inside, which first has to be burned off. Read the instruction manual and follow the information provided by the manufacturer. Usually, you proceed as follows:
- If your kitchen has a window, open it. You should close the door to other rooms so that the fumes do not spread throughout the apartment.
- Preheat the oven to 225 degrees. Use top and bottom heat and leave it on for an hour.
- Turn on the convection and turn off the temperature at the same time.
- Open the oven door and let the convection run for another 15 minutes before switching off the oven.
- You should then ventilate your home thoroughly.
