Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 500 g potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 medium-sized onions, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 25 g butter
  • 125 g cheese, grated (Cheddar cheese or Lancashire cheese)
  • Salt and pepper, black, ground

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

English potato dish from Northumberland

Briefly heat the butter and oil in a large skillet. Remove the skillet from the heat and add the potato slices, onion slices, and grated cheese in alternating layers. Set aside some of the cheese. Return the skillet to the heat and let the potatoes cook, covered, over low heat for 30 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top and place the skillet under a broiler until the cheese is golden brown. Serve directly from the skillet.
