Plums do not have pits but are pitted with stones, so the term “pit” is incorrect. Instead, you can put a plum quickly and easily with a few tools. You can read about the possibilities in this practical tip.
“Core the plums quickly”: This is how it’s done with a knife
The easiest way to pit plums is when they are ripe but not overripe. You can tell by the fact that the fruit only gives slightly when you press it. If you rarely enjoy fresh plums, you can put them with a knife in just a few steps.
- Wash the plum thoroughly and then dry it again with a clean cloth.
- Take the plum in one hand and a short, sharp paring knife in the other.
- Now cut on one side from one tip of the plum to the other, so a cut from top to bottom.
- Now push the two plum halves apart. The movement should loosen the stone and fall out. This works best if you try to rotate both halves in opposite directions.
- Otherwise, you can easily remove the stone with your fingers.
Treat the plum with the stoner: Here’s how
If you eat plums often, it may be worth buying a stoner. Make sure that this is really suitable for plums.
- Set up a bowl, this is where the removed stones will fall later.
- Insert the plum into the opening of the tongs, point first.
- Now squeeze both tong arms together and you can watch the stoner dig through the plum.
- In the end, the plum stone falls out on the other side.
