Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 380 g spelt flour, plain
  • 40 g butter, soft
  • ½ tsp, leveled salt
  • 1 cube of yeast, fresh
  • 100 ml water, lukewarm
  • 120 ml milk, lukewarm
  • 4 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 4 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

enough for 8 pieces

Crumble the yeast into a bowl and sprinkle with salt. Let stand for a while; the yeast will dissolve with the salt. Then add the lukewarm liquid and mix by hand. Add the softened butter and sift over the flour. Knead everything by hand into a homogenous, smooth dough. Divide the dough into 16 portions. Shape them into balls, cover, and let rest briefly. Then roll these balls into sticks. Brush the sticks with water and coat 8 of them in the poppy seeds. Coat the other 8 in sesame seeds. Twist one poppy seed and one sesame seed into ropes and place them on a baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size. Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C for about 20 minutes.
