Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg potatoes, floury
  • 1 onion(s), finely chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 pinch(s) of salt and pepper
  • Butter or oil for frying

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Austrian Rösti

Peel and finely grate the potatoes. Squeeze out any excess moisture from the grated potatoes. Combine the grated potatoes with finely chopped onions, eggs, flour, salt, and pepper in a bowl until smooth. Heat butter or oil in a pan and form the potato mixture into flat patties. Fry them on both sides until golden brown. Drain the finished potato patties on kitchen paper and serve hot as a side dish or as a standalone main course with a dip or sauce of your choice. This recipe serves about 4 people as a side dish or 2 people as a main course.
