Prepare White Cabbage: Various Preparation Recipes

White cabbage can be prepared in many different ways. Whether in the pan, in the cooking pot, or simply raw, you decide what tastes best.

Preparing white cabbage: You should always pay attention to this

No matter what you plan to do with your cabbage, the preparation often remains the same.

  • When buying, you should make sure that the white cabbage is nicely closed and has no brown spots.
  • Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage. Make sure there is no dirt under the leaves. If not, you don’t need to wash the cabbage once you’ve removed the outer layers.
  • If you need large cabbage leaves, just tear them off one by one.
  • Otherwise, first, divide the white cabbage into four equal parts and remove the stalk from each part. Now you can cut the cabbage into strips, the thickness is of course up to you.
  • You can boil cabbage, fry it or eat it raw in a salad.
  • If you sauté the cabbage, you can use it very well as a side dish together with other vegetables. To do this, sauté it in olive oil over medium-high heat until it has reached your desired browning. This goes well with onions or peppers, for example. You can season with cumin, paprika powder, salt, and pepper.
  • When cooking your cabbage, the cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of your strips. For thin strips, about 5 minutes is enough.

Easy cabbage rolls

This traditional recipe can also be prepared wonderfully as a vegetarian or vegan version.

  1. Blanch your cabbage in salted water until tender.
  2. Prepare the ground beef mixture. You can season your minced meat however you like. For example, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper all go well. You can also add an egg, breadcrumbs, or finely chopped onion to the mixture.
  3. Spread your mince in the cabbage leaves and roll them up. Then tie them with kitchen twine.
  4. Now fry the roulades on both sides. Then pour the whole thing on with vegetable broth and let the whole thing steep for about half an hour.
  5. Tip: Instead of minced meat, you can also use vegan minced meat or rice.

Coleslaw

This salad goes well with various roasts, for example.

  1. To do this, cut the cabbage into fine strips and sprinkle some salt over them. Then knead the cabbage strips together with the salt for a while. The salt pulls the water out of the cabbage and improves the consistency.
  2. Then pour olive oil over the white cabbage and mix everything together.
  3. Finally, add some white wine vinegar, salt, pepper, and cumin – done.
  4. Tip: Alternatively, you can also add grated carrots and refine the salad with lemon and mayonnaise.
