Not many hobby cooks dare to prepare crayfish, because they are rather a rarity in our kitchen and on the dining table. It’s not all that time-consuming and difficult.
Prepare crayfish – a garlic noodle variation
You can buy crayfish in almost every grocery store. They are not only tasty but also healthy because they contain a lot of vitamin B6. This is important for the immune system and metabolism, for example. In addition, they look very good on the plate, properly arranged.
- You will need 1 clove of garlic, herbs (e.g. parsley and chives), vegetable stock, water, olive oil, chili, 150g crayfish, 200g pasta, salt, a large saucepan, and a pan with a lid.
- Put the olive oil in a pan and sauté the finely chopped garlic or garlic that has been pressed through a garlic press. Before it starts to brown, add the crayfish and season with salt and chili.
- Turn the heat down so nothing burns and mix well. Now add the herbs and deglaze with a little vegetable broth. A dash of white wine and a squeeze of lemon also go well here.
- Place the lid on the pan and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
- At the same time, boil the pasta in a saucepan with water and salt until al dente. The crayfish dish is ready.
Prepare crayfish – with curry
A mixed salad or rice goes very well with this Asian variant with crayfish.
- You will need 150g of crayfish, 1 clove of garlic, curry powder, salt and pepper, vegetable stock, a thumb-sized piece of ginger, chili, olive oil, rice, a pan with a lid, and a saucepan.
- Put olive oil in a pan and sauté the finely chopped garlic in it. Before it starts to brown, add the crayfish and season with salt and chili.
- Deglaze everything with vegetable broth and add curry powder. Let everything simmer and add a bit of turmeric powder for more yellow color.
- Peel the ginger piece and chop it very small and add it to the pan. Now put the lid on and let everything simmer for about 10 minutes.
- At the same time, simmer the rice with water and a little salt in a saucepan until soft. A green salad also goes well with this.
Here’s what you should know about crayfish
As a rule, crayfish are eaten immediately after cooking. You can also serve them as a side dish or as a topping for salads. Supermarkets even offer pickled crayfish. But that’s where the freshness ends.
- The fish species lives in fresh water and can even be bred yourself.
- The crayfish go well with pasta, salads, scrambled eggs, or in an omelet.
- If you are making crayfish soup, save a few crayfish as garnishes. A potato salad also tastes good with crayfish, as does a potato soup.
- Other ideas include a seafood cocktail with crayfish. Try adding crayfish to the Leipziger Allerlei.
