The cold days of the year put a lot of strain on your skin. The result: dryness, redness, or itching. We will tell you the causes of these symptoms and explain how to properly care for your stressed winter skin.
Causes of dry winter skin
Suddenly it’s cold again and your skin suffers. The reason: from a temperature of 8 degrees, the sebaceous glands produce less fat. The result: the protective lipid layer of the tissue becomes permeable. In this state, the skin is less protected from harmful external influences and becomes more sensitive. In addition, the skin’s own moisture escapes more easily. Dry heating air further promotes this process, as it draws additional moisture from the skin. It dries out, becomes brittle and cracked. But don’t worry, because with the right body and face care and a few simple tricks, you can help your skin!
Practical tips for your winter skin
Follow these simple tips during the chilly season and scaly, dry winter skin will soon be a thing of the past!
Use fatty products
In order to strengthen the cracked lipid layer of the tissue, care products containing fat are the ultimate. These help to rebuild the skin’s own barrier. The skin loses less moisture and is again better protected against external influences.
So when it’s cold, treat your face and body with creams, serums and lotions that contain nourishing vegetable oils such as olive, argan and almond oil. Other caring ingredients include shea butter, urea, glycerin and linoleic acid. Rich day creams and body milk usually also bring these with you and thus provide the skin with sufficient moisture against the cold weather. Our tip: Don’t forget your lips, hands and feet! Always think about adequate lip, hand and foot care.
Use lukewarm water
Heat promotes moisture loss from the fabric. If possible, only wash, bathe and shower your skin with lukewarm water in winter to protect it.
Avoid cleaning products containing alcohol
Many cleaning products contain alcohol. This also removes moisture from your already brittle winter skin. It is therefore better to use moisturizing products for this beauty ritual. Particularly nourishing: creamy cleansing milk.
Drink enough
We believe in beauty inside and out. So take care of the stressed tissue with high-quality skin care on the outside – and at the same time help your skin from the inside, e.g. with enough water. Because: Drinking promotes the skin’s metabolism, which stimulates the protective and defensive functions of the organ. 1.5 to 2 liters a day is ideal.
