Layered potatoes, a recipe from Hungary
Boil the potatoes with their skins on, let them cool slightly, then peel and slice them. Dice the bacon and fry them. Boil the eggs hard, let them cool, and then slice them, just like the sausage. Brush an ovenproof dish with a little butter and line it with half of the potato slices. Then layer the eggs and sausage slices on top. Mix the sour cream with a little milk and spread one half over the potatoes, then sprinkle the bacon cracklings on top. Layer the other half of the potato slices on top, then pour the remaining cream and bacon fat over them. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 30-40 minutes until golden brown. Serve with a salad or, more traditionally, with pickled vegetables. Tip: If you don’t want to use the bacon, you can use a little melted butter instead.
