Remoulade without egg: ingredients for the recipe

Unfortunately, tartar sauce with raw egg yolk does not last very long. If you prefer to be on the safe side when preparing a homemade tartar sauce, simply prepare it without eggs. For the recipe you need the following ingredients:

  • 100ml milk
  • 200 ml neutral oil (e.g. sunflower oil)
  • 100 g crème fraîche or sour cream
  • 1 onion or shallot
  • 2 gherkins
  • 1 tbsp capers
  • 1 tbsp medium hot mustard
  • 1 tsp sugar, leveled
  • ½ organic lemon (grated zest) or 1 squeeze of lemon juice
  • Herbs to taste (e.g. tarragon, parsley, dill, chives, chervil)
  • pepper
  • Salt

Remoulade without eggs: the preparation

Remoulade goes very well with hard-boiled eggs, bread, fried potatoes, fish, and roasts. If you have leftovers after eating, it is best to store them in the fridge. The homemade, egg-free tartar sauce can be kept refrigerated for up to seven days.

  1. Finely chop the gherkins, capers, and onion.
  2. If you want to add fresh herbs to the remoulade, chop them finely. Alternatively, just use dried herbs.
  3. In a tall mixing bowl, combine milk, mustard, and oil.
  4. Using the hand blender on low, mix the ingredients together until smooth.
  5. Now fold the remaining ingredients into the remoulade.
  6. Finally, season the finished remoulade with salt and pepper.
