Renate’s Herring Tartare

The perfect renate’s herring tartare recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 6 piece Herring fillets
  • 2 whole Diced onions
  • 0,5 Diced cucumber
  • 0,25 Diced pineapple
  • 2 Apple diced to your own taste
  • 2 medium sized Diced pickles
  • 2 tbsp Chopped capers
  • 1 bunch Chives fresh
  • 1 bunch Frozen dill
  • 1 bunch Parsely
  • 0,5 tsp Hot paprika powder
  • 1 tsp Mustard hot
  • 1 piece Chopped ginger
  • 1 tbsp Cognac
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Black pepper from the mill
  1. Peel the onions, cucumber, apples and pineapple and cut into small cubes.
  2. Dice the matjes fillets and pickles as well. Finely chop the chives, dill and parsley (frozen herbs can also be used).
  3. Peel the ginger tuber and cut or grate it very small.
  4. Put all ingredients in a large bowl and mix with the spices.
  5. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  6. I recommend letting the tartar steep for about an hour so that the spices can develop.
  7. Tastes great with jacket potatoes or white bread.
