This is how much water you need for your rice in the kettle

If you want to cook parboiled long grain rice using the swelling method, then you will need 1.5 cups of water for every cup. One also speaks of a rice-water ratio of 1:1.5. So multiply the number of rice cups by 1.5. The following varieties of rice have different ratios. You also have to let some of them soak in the water before you can cook the rice in the kettle.

  • You can also cook basmati rice in a ratio of 1:1.5. The same goes for jasmine rice.
  • Sticky rice is cooked in a ratio of 1:1.5. However, this type of rice must be soaked in water for about two hours beforehand.
  • Mochi rice even requires a rice-water mixture of 1:2.5 and a soaking time of at least eight hours.
  • You should cook paella rice in a ratio of 1:3 and use vegetable broth instead of water. Risotto rice is also cooked 1:3. Again, you should use vegetable broth.
  • For black rice, you also need 3 parts water to 1 part rice (1:3).
  • Cook red rice in a ratio of 1:2 – i.e. with twice the amount of water.
  • Wild rice requires 2.5 parts water when cooking (1:2.5).
  • Tip: You shouldn’t cook rice pudding in the rice cooker, but better on the stove. The milk burns more easily in the rice cooker and is also much more difficult to clean.
