Rice Milk: Rice Drinks Really Are That Healthy

Spread the love

This is how rice milk is made

Rice milk smells and tastes like rice, but the finished product doesn’t contain much of it.

  • The cooked brown rice is mashed, mixed with water, and then filtered.
  • To ensure the milky consistency, the rice milk is then fermented or enriched with emulsifiers.
  • Rice drinks often have flavor enhancers or large amounts of sugar added to them.

The alternative: prepare rice milk yourself

Prepare your own rice milk, make sure that only natural ingredients go into the drink:

  • Boil 1 cup whole grain rice with twice the amount of water until the liquid has completely evaporated.
  • Then mix the rice again with about 200 milliliters of water and puree this mixture well.
  • Season your rice milk according to taste, for example with sugar, cinnamon, or vanilla.
  • Finally, mix everything well again, let the mixture rest for an hour and then filter it through a tea towel.

Rice drinks are so healthy

Rice milk from the supermarket is no longer really nutritious since most of the healthy components of the rice grains are lost during production:

  • The milk alternative contains little fat, but hardly any proteins and nutrients.
  • In contrast, there are many carbohydrates in rice milk. It contains 49 calories per 100 milliliters and thus provides quick energy.
  • Rice drinks are lactose-free, milk-protein-free, and gluten-free. This makes them ideal as a milk substitute for allergy sufferers.
  • They are not suitable for babies and toddlers due to the lack of nutrients. In addition, the arsenic found in rice products can be toxic to children.
  • When buying rice milk, look for organic quality and as few artificial additives and sugar as possible.
