Salsiccia meatballs in tomato sauce

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 300 g salsiccia (coarse Italian sausage)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 onions
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 2 cloves garlic, young
  • 600 g tomatoes, chopped (from a can)
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 small bunch of basil

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Pasta party

Squeeze the sausage meat out of the skin and form into small balls with wet hands. Heat olive oil in a large pan and fry the meatballs over medium heat until browned. Meanwhile, finely dice the onions and add them to the pan along with the fennel seeds. Press in the garlic and fry for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until translucent. Add the tomato pieces, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for about 20 minutes over moderate heat. Pick the basil leaves, chop coarsely, and sprinkle over the sauce. Serve with cooked pasta.
