Sardine sauce for pasta

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 onion(s), peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 cans of sardines, preferably boneless
  • 1 red bell pepper(s), cleaned and roughly chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, cut into small cubes
  • Salt
  • pepper
  • basil
  • olive oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Heat the olive oil in a saucepan, add the onions, garlic, and bell peppers, and sauté for about 2 minutes. Let it cool slightly, then blend in a blender or with a hand blender until creamy. Return it to the pan and heat briefly. Add the tomatoes and the slightly chopped sardines, season with salt, pepper, and basil, stir gently, and simmer gently for about 5 minutes over low heat. Add a little water if necessary to prevent burning. Delicious with spaghetti or other pasta.
