Savoy cabbage casserole in mustard and cream sauce

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 head of savoy cabbage
  • 100 ml cream
  • 150 g Cheddar cheese or Gouda, grated
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • butter
  • salt and pepper
  • Bacon, smoked, as desired

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Cut the savoy cabbage into strips. Heat about 50g of butter and 3 tablespoons of water together in a large saucepan. When the butter has melted and it begins to bubble, add the savoy cabbage strips to the pan. Cover and shake the pan. Sauté briefly, then shake again and sauté again until the cabbage begins to soften. Season well with salt and pepper. Place the savoy cabbage in a greased casserole dish. Mix the cream, grated cheese, and mustard, perhaps adding a little more pepper. Pour this mixture over the savoy cabbage. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 15-20 minutes. This dish goes well with boiled potatoes or smoked pork loin, for example. If you like, you can also mix smoked and fried bacon into the savoy cabbage instead of a meaty side dish. It’s best to fry this separately beforehand and add a layer of savoy cabbage to the casserole dish first, then a layer of bacon, and then another layer of savoy cabbage. If you like a little sauce, you can increase the amount of cream slightly.
