great for using up leftovers

Skin the sausages and place three of them in a tall bowl with the roughly diced onion. Blend until smooth using a hand blender. Thinly slice the remaining two sausages. Brown the sausage mash and the sausage slices in fat and set aside. Lightly grease a baking dish with butter. Pour in half of the mashed potatoes and smooth the surface. Spread the sauerkraut on top, then spread the sausage mixture on top. Cover with the remaining mashed potatoes. Whisk the cream with the egg and pour evenly over the mashed potatoes. Bake at 200°C for about 30 minutes, until the surface is light golden yellow. I use leftovers, so the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut are from the day before and already seasoned.
