Simple but delicious. From an Ikea cookbook from the 70s.
Cut the onions into 1 cm thick slices. Heat a pan with 1 tablespoon of margarine and lightly brown the onions. Remove from the pan. Cut the potatoes into 1 cm thick slices and fry them again in 1 tablespoon of margarine, then remove from the pan. Cut the meat into bite-sized pieces and fry them in the pan with margarine over high heat. Season with salt and pepper. In a larger pot, alternate layers of potatoes, onions, and meat. Top with the thyme, the bunch of parsley (tie with kitchen string), bay leaf, caraway seeds, 2 teaspoons of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper. Then pour in the bottle of beer and enough stock to cover the top layer. Cover and simmer for about 50 minutes over low heat. Instead of margarine, you can also use oil, although this wasn’t as popular in the 70s.
