Season rice before cooking
Whether you season your rice before or after cooking is up to you. However, keep in mind that the rice is the basis of your dish and it is best not to displace the taste of the sauce.
- A little tip in advance: Wash your rice beforehand. This removes excess starch and makes the rice fluffier.
- You should always use a little salt. But be careful not to use too much, rice is quickly oversalted.
- If you want to add Indian flavor to your rice, add curry, turmeric, chili and cumin to the cooking water. This not only flavors your rice, but also gives it a nice yellow color.
- Let your creativity run free when seasoning. Pepper and paprika powder also go well. A little cardamom will give your rice a very special flavor, but remember to remove the pods before serving.
- When preparing rice pudding, add sugar and cinnamon. A little butter makes the rice nice and rich. A small pinch of salt is also a good flavor enhancer.
Season rice after cooking
If they are added after cooking, the spices are often a bit more succinct.
- Here, too, you can season your rice as you wish. Pepper, paprika or curry are good.
- If you want to add a Mediterranean flavor to your rice, this is best done after cooking. Add a little olive oil or truffle oil to the rice. Herbs such as rosemary, thyme, basil or oregano also go very well.
- You can also refine your rice with a little butter or herb butter. Add the butter just after cooking while the rice is still hot.
- With tomato paste you can give the rice a nice color after cooking. You can also add some of your favorite pesto to the rice.
