Semolina Porridge Recipe: This is How it Tastes Like Grandma’s

Semolina pudding evokes memories of childhood in many people. With the right recipe, however, you can also delight the adults with semolina porridge and the children anyway. We show you how to prepare the semolina porridge and how you can refine it.

Make semolina porridge yourself: ingredients for the recipe

You don’t need many ingredients for the basic recipe. However, you can give your semolina pudding the right kick with a few extra ingredients.

  • For your semolina porridge, you need milk, sugar, a pinch of salt, and of course wheat semolina. For one liter of milk, take 200g of semolina and, depending on your taste, about 80g of sugar.
  • Your semolina pudding will have a much finer taste if you replace part of the milk with cream. You can also add some butter to the milk instead of the cream.
  • A vanilla pod gives your semolina a fine and subtle note. Grate the pulp into the milk and leave the vanilla bean in the milk until it boils. Alternatively, add vanilla sugar to the milk.
  • Your homemade semolina porridge will get a fruity note with the juice of an organic lemon.
  • Cinnamon and raw cane sugar are classic ingredients for the semolina porridge. Stir a little cinnamon into the finished semolina pudding and sprinkle the surface with cinnamon and raw cane sugar.
  • Fresh fruits taste delicious with semolina porridge. In particular, berries such as blackberries, blueberries, or strawberries harmonize well with the milk dish.
  • In the winter months, serve your homemade semolina porridge with compotes, such as plum compote, or red fruit jelly.
  • Tip: The adults might be happy about a small shot of fruit liqueur to go with the semolina pudding, such as strawberry liqueur.
