That’s the perfect temperature in your fridge
What you may not have known: many foods like it cool, but by no means ice cold. For this reason alone, you should check the set temperature of your refrigerator and correct it if necessary.
- The European Union recommends five degrees on the energy label for refrigerators. However, this is by no means necessary. The optimal temperature in refrigerators is usually seven degrees.
- The difference is only two degrees, but that means about twelve percent more power consumption. Since your refrigerator is in use around the clock, you can save a lot of electricity and money.
- If you still have a refrigerator with control levels, the seven degrees correspond to level one or two.
- Of course, the temperature is not the same throughout the refrigerator. For physical reasons, the higher the compartments are located, the warmer it gets because the cold air settles at the bottom of the refrigerator.
- Incidentally, minus 18 degrees is ideal for the freezer compartment of your refrigerator.
So you always have the optimal refrigerator temperature
- Sort the groceries in the refrigerator so that you can quickly take out frequently used products. The longer the refrigerator door is open, the more warm air rushes in and it takes a while before the optimal temperature is reached again.
- If your refrigerator is well stocked, it won’t fill up with warm air as quickly as when you open the door.
- It goes without saying that hot food has no place in the fridge for the same reason.
