Traditional pastries from England

Mix the flour, starch, and baking powder. Cream the butter, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy, adding a few drops of the butter and vanilla flavoring. Slowly add the flour mixture and mix well to form a light, crumbly dough. This works best with the dough hook on a stand mixer. Spread the dough evenly onto a baking sheet lined with baking paper, press down firmly, and smooth the surface with a rolling pin. Prick the dough a few times with a fork. Preheat the oven to 170°C and bake the shortbread for 20-25 minutes until light golden. Remove from the oven and immediately cut into strips approximately 1.5 x 6 cm with a knife. Allow to cool and store in a tightly sealed biscuit tin.
