Simple butter cookies

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g butter
  • 500 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 kg flour
  • ½ tsp liquor (arrack)
  • Cinnamon for sprinkling
  • Sugar for sprinkling
  • Flour for the work surface

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Rest time approx. 12 hours; Total time approx. 12 hours 45 minutes

Grandma’s way

Using the dough hook of a mixer, beat the butter, sugar, eggs, and arrack until smooth. Gradually fold in the sifted flour until a smooth cookie dough forms. Let the dough rest in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, roll out the dough on a floured surface with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 4 mm and cut out cookies of your choice. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C to 200°C (top/bottom heat) for about 12 minutes. Don’t bake any longer, as otherwise they will become too hard. After removing the cookies from the oven, immediately sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon (they can also be covered in chocolate—the sky’s the limit). The cookies taste best after they have rested for a few days. Tip: The arrack can also be replaced with other flavorings such as vanilla or almonds.
