Sloppy Joes – a typical American dish

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1,500 g minced beef
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 medium-sized onion(s), finely chopped
  • ½ bell pepper(s), green, finely diced
  • 1 garlic clove(s), chopped
  • ½ pepper, red, fresh, chopped, with or without seeds
  • 180 ml ketchup, approx.
  • 2 tbsp mustard, hot
  • 60 ml water
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp mild white wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp, heaped chili powder
  • salt and pepper
  • e.g. rolls (hamburger), soft

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 6 hours; Total time approx. 6 hours 20 minutes

a recipe for the crockpot (slow cooker)

This dish is suitable for a 3.5 L Crock Pot (CP). First, brown the ground beef in hot oil. Then add the onion and sauté, and finally, stir in the garlic. Add everything to the CP—the excess fat can remain in the pan. Now mix in the remaining ingredients thoroughly. Cover. Cooking time: approximately 6–8 hours on the lowest setting (“low”). Stir well and season to taste. Serve on hamburger buns. Potato salad with mayonnaise is a particularly good side dish.
