Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 500 g smoked pork
  • 3 Vienna sausages
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 2 red peppers
  • 2 onions
  • 2 ½ liters of meat broth
  • 3 gherkins
  • 3 tbsp stock from the pickle jar
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Dice the smoked pork and slice the wieners. Slice the red bell pepper, dice the onions, dice the gherkins, dice the tomatoes, and slice the lemons. Brown the smoked pork and sausage slices in oil, add the diced onions and pepper strips, and sauté. Pour in the meat broth. Add the cucumber, tomato, cucumber juice, and tomato paste, and simmer uncovered for about 25 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the solyanka in soup bowls, adding a tablespoon of sour cream and a lemon wedge to each serving.
