South African Meat Meal

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 slices white bread, crust removed
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 onion(s), diced
  • 1 garlic clove(s), chopped
  • 2 apples (Granny Smith)
  • 4 apricots
  • 400 g minced meat (pork)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 250 g almond(s), ground
  • 1 small can of tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • ⅛ liter whipped cream
  • 100 g cheese, grated
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Minced meat casserole

Break the bread into pieces and soak in the milk for about 20 minutes. Peel the garlic and onions and chop very finely. Wash and chop the apples and apricots. Brown the minced meat with the onions and garlic in a pan. Season with salt, spices, and balsamic vinegar. Add the apple, apricots, flour, almonds, and tomato paste. Squeeze the liquid out of the white bread and add it. Place in a baking dish. Whisk the eggs with the whipped cream and pour into the baking dish. Spread the cheese on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for about 45 minutes. Serve hot.
