Spicy hunter's cabbage

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 600 g white cabbage or savoy cabbage
  • 1 tbsp lard
  • 100 g bacon, diced
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • some caraway
  • nutmeg
  • Salt
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • some water

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Fry the diced bacon in the lard. Cut the cabbage into thin strips, dice the onion, and add it to the well-browned bacon. Stir in 1-2 teaspoons of sugar and let everything brown well. This is important for the tangy flavor and takes about 10 minutes. Season, add a little water. Simmer briefly, but be careful not to over-soften the cabbage. Finally, stir in the sour cream and season to taste. A hearty winter side dish for bratwurst and potatoes or meatballs and boiled potatoes.
