Spicy red cabbage

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 red cabbage (approx. 1 kg)
  • 2 onions
  • 4 tsp vegetable oil
  • 150 ml water
  • 200 ml apple juice (without sugar)
  • 3 tbsp vinegar (red wine vinegar)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 carnation(s)
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp juniper berries
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • salt and pepper
  • Sweetener, a few drops of

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Cut the red cabbage into very fine strips, peel the onion, and dice it into small pieces. Heat the oil and fry the diced onion until translucent. Add the water, apple juice, and red wine vinegar. Add the bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon stick, and juniper berries, and stir in the sugar. Simmer the red cabbage in a covered pan over medium heat for about 45 minutes. Remove the spices from the red cabbage and season with salt, pepper, and sweetener to taste. Serve hot. Tip: Add apple or pear pieces while cooking to enhance the flavor.
