Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
spicy sauce with a touch of barbecue style
First, heat the olive oil on the stovetop over 3/4 heat. Once the oil is hot, add the spice mix and roast for about 3-4 minutes. Alternatively, you can also use a pinch of chili powder and a clove of garlic. In the meantime, dice the onion and cut the streaky bacon into thin slices (1 x 2 cm). Add both to the pan and sauté until translucent. Then add the diced tomatoes. Let simmer for another 2-3 minutes. Now add the passata, tomato paste, thinly sliced pepperoni, herbs, liquid smoke (alternatively, 1/2 teaspoon smoked salt), and Worcestershire sauce. If you prefer a slightly sweeter flavor, you can add 1 tablespoon brown sugar. Stir everything thoroughly and simmer in the uncovered pan over 1/3 heat, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes. Finally, season to taste with salt and pepper (tip: cayenne pepper!). The sauce is great with any kind of pasta, grilled meat, and, as a highlight: breaded schnitzel “Vienna style.”
