Storing celery: This is how you achieve maximum shelf life

The storage of tuber and celery is the same.

  • Both types of celery are best stored in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.
  • The celery will keep here for up to 14 days.
  • Don’t use up the whole celeriac, it’s best to wrap the rest in some aluminum foil and put it back in the vegetable drawer of the fridge.
  • If you have a sufficiently large plastic container, you can also use this for storage in the refrigerator. So the celery is a little more “isolated” from other vegetables that ripen faster or allow the celery to ripen faster.
  • Certain types of fruit such as pears or apples, but also avocados, should not be stored near celery. These promote the ripening process of the vegetables. They secrete a certain ripening gas, which causes celery to wilt faster and your celeriac to spoil faster.
