Store Spices Optimally – This is How it Works

If you store your spices correctly, the aroma will last for a long time. It also ensures that the spice powder does not clump together.

Store spices correctly: this way they stay fresh for a long time

No matter what spices you store, the following instructions are universal.

  • A kitchen cupboard is ideal for storage. All spices keep their aroma longer if they are stored in the dark.
  • Also, avoid moisture and heat. On the one hand, the spices will otherwise lose their taste and, on the other hand, the spice powder will clump together. A place directly next to or above the stove is therefore unsuitable.
  • An airtight container is also important so as not to impair the aroma.
  • Store your spices in daylight, and fill them in dark screw-top jars.
  • Good to know: If you use spices in powder form, the aroma will not last as long as with unground spices such as cloves, nutmeg, or cinnamon sticks.
