Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 70 g sugar
- 40 ml water
- 250 g butter
- 3 tbsp cinnamon, ground
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 tbsp clove(s), ground
- 4 tsp cardamom
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 500 g flour
- possibly chocolate coating
- possibly almond(s)
Instructions
Working time approx. 40 minutes; Rest time approx. 9 hours; Total time approx. 9 hours 40 minutes
Place the sugar, water, and butter in a saucepan. Melt the butter and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add all the spices and stir gently until a smooth, dark brown liquid forms. Mix the baking soda and flour well. Then add the spice liquid and knead into a smooth dough. If the dough is too sticky, firm it up with a little flour. Be careful, the dough should not crumble or taste of flour. Chill the dough in cling film overnight or for at least 8 hours. Cut the dough into pieces and roll out each piece to a thickness of about 2-3 cm and cut out using any desired shapes. Bake at 200°C for about 5-8 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. If desired, dip in dark chocolate and decorate with almond slivers or almonds.
