Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes
uncomplicated, light, very popular casserole with children
Bring the milk and salt to a boil. Add the rice and cook over low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until al dente. If the liquid has already been absorbed and the rice is not yet al dente, add a little more milk if necessary. Then let the rice cool slightly. Brush a large casserole dish with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat). Mix together the butter, sugar, eggs, and cinnamon. Then fold in the rice. Then fold in the baking powder, custard powder, apples, and raisins. Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle with butter flakes, if desired. Bake in the preheated oven at 200°C for about 40-60 minutes, depending on the size/depth of the dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar before serving, if desired. The casserole can also be reheated the next day with a little milk.
