a “fake” for a quick hunger or prepared as a snack for guests
You can use bread from the day before or even the day before, just make sure it’s not too hard. Either cut the baguette into diagonal slices, about 2-3 cm thick, or into sections and then cut them in half crosswise. Preheat the oven to 225°C (I preheat without fan and then bake with fan) and place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Place the bread on top. Now spread a thick layer of sour cream or cream cheese, or both, on each piece of bread, season with salt and pepper, and sprinkle with a pinch of chili. Distribute the onions and cheese on top. This requires some care, as you can’t just sprinkle it on, otherwise it won’t be evenly distributed. Add the bacon on top, which will make it more flavorful and crispier. Now place the baking sheet in the now-hot oven, in the lower third, and bake for 12-15 minutes. It depends on how crispy you want the bread and the oven’s temperature; just keep an eye on it towards the end. Tip for game night or a child’s birthday party: simply prepare a large batch and store it in the refrigerator, covered with cling film. It won’t soak even after a few hours. The bread tastes best served lukewarm.
