Tostones fried plantains

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 6 banana(s), green plantains
  • Olive oil, for frying
  • Salt

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Mixture of banana and potato chips

Peel the bananas and cut them diagonally into approximately 5 mm thick slices. Fry the slices in hot oil until brown on both sides, remove them from the pan, and flatten them (I’ve never seen a device for this in Europe; you can simply place the banana slice between two wooden boards and press firmly). Then add the approximately 2 mm thick slices back to the hot oil and fry until crispy. Remove them, season with salt, and you’re done. Note: If you choose slightly yellower or browner plantains, the result will be a bit sweeter and have a more intense banana flavor. The completely green ones taste almost like potatoes.
