Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • n. B. Sesame for sprinkling
  • 250 g butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 100 ml oil
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 350 g flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp spice(s) (sour cherry kernels), ground, Mahlep, available in Turkish shops

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Toast the sesame seeds in a non-stick pan until golden brown. Mix all the ingredients for the dough, except the flour, baking powder, and cherry kernels. Gradually add the flour, baking powder, and cherry kernels to prepare the dough. Form the dough into small balls and shape them into rings. Beat the egg whites with 2 tablespoons of water. Dip the rings in egg whites and then roll them in sesame seeds. Sprinkle some of them with black cumin seeds, if desired. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15-20 minutes and allow to cool completely on the baking sheet. Then transfer to a serving plate. Note: These sesame rings are baked in Turkey on certain religious holidays and distributed among neighbors. They taste just like the ones you’d get from the bakery.
