homemade sauce with real vanilla – without egg

In a saucepan, bring the milk to a boil with powdered sugar and a sliced vanilla pod and let it steep for a while. Blend the cornstarch with a little cold milk until smooth, stir into the boiling milk, and bring to a boil briefly. Then remove the vanilla pod, scrape out the remaining seeds, and add them to the sauce. Allow the sauce to cool, stirring occasionally. This works best if you place the pan in cold water. Once cooled, stir in the stiffly whipped cream.
