Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 4 eggs
  • 200 g sugar
  • 250 g butter
  • 100 g almonds, ground
  • 1 cup orange juice, approx. 150 ml
  • 2 vanilla pods or vanilla sugar
  • 50 g chocolate shavings or finely chopped chocolate
  • 1 tsp Greek spice(s) (Mahalep – Machlepi)
  • 1 tbsp Liqueur 43
  • 1 tbsp Amaretto
  • 150 g yogurt
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 orange(s), untreated, zest thereof
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 500 g flour
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 2 hours 20 minutes

Greek New Year’s cake

Preheat the oven to approximately 170°C (fan assisted oven). Beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla pods until frothy. Add the softened butter and beat well. Then stir in the remaining ingredients, excluding the flour and baking powder. Mix the baking powder with the flour and sift it in. Stir briefly. Pour the batter into a greased springform pan lined with baking paper and bake for approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour. Test the batter with a skewer. Once the cake has cooled, place a coin (wrapped in aluminum foil) inside the bottom of the cake. Decorate the cake as desired.
