Ingredients for 5 servings:
- 200 g lentils, red
- 1 small onion(s)
- 1 garlic clove(s) or garlic powder
- n. B. Vegetable oil for frying
- 60 g oat flakes
- 25 g flour
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp mustard
- ½ tbsp vegetable stock powder
- 2 tsp paprika powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- e.g. salt and pepper
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 3 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours 45 minutes
Cook the lentils according to the package instructions, then strain and drain. Meanwhile, peel and finely dice the onion and garlic clove. First, fry the diced onion in oil until translucent. Then add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute. In a large bowl, mash the drained lentils with a fork. Add the onion, garlic, oats, and flour, and season with the remaining ingredients. Then knead the mixture thoroughly with your hands and refrigerate for a few hours. Then form the mixture into 5 patties. Heat plenty of oil in a pan, then reduce the heat and add the patties to the oil. Fry both sides for 10 minutes. The floury flavor is reminiscent of the typical Münsterland dish “Wurstebrot,” also known as “Mehlwurst.”
