Wasabi: Eating Healthy With The Green Tuber

The green root from Asia has it all: Wasabi is not only particularly hot, but also particularly healthy! Here you can read how the hot root vegetables have a positive effect on your health.

The well-known wasabi paste, which you know as a dip for sushi, is made from the hot root of the wasabi plant. Wasabi gets its sharpness from the high content of mustard oils. Similar to horseradish, you can feel this spiciness in your nose.

In natural medicine, mustard oil is considered a herbal antibiotic and helps you to ‘eat healthily’.

This is the effect wasabi has on your health

Wasabi has long had a place as a medicinal plant in traditional Japanese medicine. The mustard oils contained in large quantities are among the plant substances that are good for the entire organism and are even said to reduce the risk of cancer. Numerous scientific studies show that mustard oils help fight inflammation and bacterial and viral infections.

Wasabi has a positive effect on your immune system: the sharpness puts it on alert and makes it particularly strong against harmful pathogens and bacteria.

Your digestion also benefits from the healthy ingredients of the wasabi root: Your digestion is promoted and strengthened. Wasabi also has a detoxifying and purifying effect. It is therefore the ideal diet food!

Caution: like chili or pepper, wasabi should be consumed in moderation. Otherwise, the hot spice could lead to symptoms such as heartburn or diarrhea if you have a sensitive stomach.

Recipe idea: How to cook with wasabi

Wasabi is usually available in paste or powder form. Unfortunately, the whole root itself is rarely available for purchase. But you can also refine dishes with the paste or powder.

Wasabi is particularly suitable for homemade dips. Carefully add some wasabi paste to the mayo and whisk together to form a creamy dip. You can vary the spiciness as you like by increasing the dosage of the paste. The wasabi dip goes well with potato or fish dishes! Very classic, you use wasabi as an addition to sushi!

You can also use wasabi paste to flavor breading, for example. Simply add some of the hot powder to the remaining ingredients with which you want to bread meat or vegetables and conjure up a delicious and healthy spiciness in your dish! There are no limits to your imagination when it comes to seasoning and refining with the diverse wasabi root, after all you are doing something really good for your health!
