Dangerous fertilizers for the vegetable garden – a list
If you do not want to get sick plants instead of a lush harvest and remain without food, do not use any of the following fertilizers.
Fresh cow manure
Manure is considered one of the most well-known fertilizers because it is high in nutrients. However, fresh cow manure is a dangerous chemical compound because its concentration of beneficial elements is too high. If they get into the soil, they will provoke a burn and death of plants. If you want to fertilize seedbeds with cow manure, wait until it turns into hummus.
Yeast
This product stimulates the growth of bacteria but has no effect on the crop. Using yeast as fertilizer is a common mistake of many beginning gardeners. Such a natural component can only be used together with ash or some organic matter.
Manganese
Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidizing agent, it should not be used on acidic soil. Manganese can be used as a disinfectant for garden tools or seeds. Manganese solution kills any beneficial bacteria in the soil, so in some cases, it is useless and in some cases even dangerous.
Human feces
Many gardeners are wondering whether they can fertilize their gardens with human feces. Of course not. In its pure form, human feces can contain helminth eggs and pathogens. If you want to experiment and use such richness for your beds, do it after composting.
Salt and Soda
Salt is good for controlling weeds and pests, but as a fertilizer, it is not. Even if you use salt to get rid of unnecessary vegetation, consider that where you sprinkled salt, nothing else will grow. This can be corrected – to dig over the problem area and mix it with sand or humus, but it is better to avoid such practices altogether.
The same applies to soda – because of the sodium in the powder, plants begin to develop more slowly, that is, the benefit of this product, as a fertilizer, no. In general, soda can be used to alkalize the soil, but it is better to choose such purposes as wood ash or caustic lime.
