The almost forgotten miracle cure for diarrheal diseases, the Moro soup (according to Prof. Dr. Ernst Moro), was used regularly until the 1940s, especially in children’s hospitals. Then it was supplanted by antibiotics. The soup may even be able to paralyze the notorious bacillus Ehec and is also effective against intestinal germs that do not respond to antibiotics. Cooking carrots produces sugar molecules (oligosaccharides) that combine with harmful bacteria in the gut and are excreted with them. This means that the germs can no longer attack the intestinal mucosa.

Potatoes for diarrhea

Alkaline potato water is also good for diarrhea. With potatoes, however, you should always make sure not to use any green plant parts (such as green areas of the skin or germinating buds) because they are incompatible with the solanine they contain.

Grated apple for diarrhea

The apple is a small medicine ball. Grating the apple ensures that the pectin it contains is absorbed more easily. It binds toxins in the intestine and is excreted with them. It also soothes the intestinal wall.

Pretzel sticks and cola for diarrhea?

The well-known home remedy for diarrhea, cola, is counterproductive: cola contains a lot of sugar and caffeine – both of which can make diarrhea worse. Pretzel sticks for diarrhea don’t do any harm – but they also don’t bring the hoped-for effect, namely balancing the salt balance.
