When is Palm Oil Harmless – The Answer of a Nutritionist

Nutritionist Kateryna Maslova says the problem is that today palm oil is actively used to make trans fats that are harmful to health.

Palm oil is not as bad as many people think, but there is an important problem with its use today. This was told by the famous nutritionist Ekaterina Maslova.

“There is nothing wrong with natural palm oil. Mankind has been obtaining it from the fruits of the oil palm for thousands of years and has been actively using it for food. Despite the fact that it is a vegetable product, palm oil, like coconut oil, which is loved by many, belongs to the so-called saturated fatty acids. They also include fats of animal origin such as butter or pork fat. If you abuse them, there is a risk of increasing the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood. If you know the measure and do not exceed the dose of 10-20 grams per day, then everything will be fine with your health. But we are talking exclusively about natural palm oil,” she said.

Maslova says the main problem is that today palm oil is actively used to make trans fats that are harmful to health.

“For this purpose, the oil is subjected to a special chemical reaction – hydrogenation. The result is a cheap product with a long shelf life, which is convenient to use for the production of desserts, glazed cheeses, cakes, cookies, etc. Foods with trans fats should be completely excluded from your diet if you care about your health,” the nutritionist warned.
