When the doner kebab was invented is pretty well documented. Interesting to know: The typical Turkish hand food was invented in Germany.
When was the doner kebab invented?
The doner kebab is actually called doner kebab. The Turkish term means “rotating grilled meat”.
- The doner kebab was invented in 1972. Its inventor is called Kadir Nurman.
- Norman came to Germany as a guest worker in the late 1960s and initially lived in Stuttgart.
- When Norman moved to Berlin in 1972, he noticed that many people lived under time pressure and liked fast food on the go.
- That’s when Nurmann came up with the idea for the doner kebab: He packed meat and onions in flatbread.
- So his customers could easily eat it out of their hands.
- So the inventor of the kebab was a Turk. However, the popular dish was invented in Germany, more precisely in Berlin.
