Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg white cabbage, outer leaves removed, quartered, stalk removed, sliced ​​into fine strips
  • 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 60 g smoked bacon, fat, diced
  • 1 medium-sized onion(s), diced
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds
  • 125 ml water
  • some salt
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water, cold, for the cornstarch

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 35 minutes

Heat the oil, fry the bacon cubes, and remove them. Sauté the onion cubes in the bacon fat. Briefly heat the cabbage and caraway seeds. Add the water and salt, cover, and cook over low heat for about 60 minutes. Older cabbage will need about 90 minutes. Then thicken with the cornstarch mixed with the water and season with salt.
