After drinking water from a plastic bottle, many people do not throw away the empty container but continue to use it. And, the expert says, this practice is dangerous.
Long-term storage of drinking water in a plastic bottle can be harmful to health. This was stated by expert and Ph.D. Yuriy Honchar.
After drinking water from a plastic bottle, many people do not throw away the empty container but continue to use it. They pour drinks into it again and take it with them, for example, to the office. But plastic is not as harmless as it might seem.
“We conduct research on the content of total organic carbon in bottled water – this is a cumulative indicator of the presence of organic compounds in water that comes into contact with plastic – in a month, six months, a year, and 18 months. And we see a geometric progression in the increase in the content of total organic carbon,” Gonchar said.
That is, the expert says, the longer water is stored in a plastic bottle, the more organic compounds harmful to the body accumulate in it.
