Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • ½ lemon(s), zest, grated
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 cl rum
  • 125 g butter
  • Fat, for frying
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Mix the flour with the baking powder, then quickly knead it with the sugar, vanilla sugar, lemon zest, eggs, rum, and butter to form a smooth dough. Wrap in foil and chill for 1 hour. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 3 mm and cut out 3 x 10 cm rectangles. Cut a 5 cm slit in the middle and pull one end through the slit. Heat the fat to 180 degrees Celsius and fry the wood shavings until golden brown. Drain on kitchen paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar to serve. Tip: The fat is at the right temperature when bubbles rise from a wooden spoon. Remove the wood shavings with a slotted spoon.
