Zeppelinas – Lithuanian meatballs

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 ½ kg dumpling dough
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 6 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 600 g minced meat, mixed
  • 3 onions
  • salt and pepper
  • 300 g bacon cubes
  • 3 cups sour cream

Instructions

Working time approx. 45 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Make a meat dough from egg yolk, breadcrumbs, ground meat, and a finely chopped onion. Season with salt and pepper and roll into about 12 small balls. Divide the dumpling dough into about 12 pieces, roll each one into a ball, and flatten them. Place a ball of the meat dough on each piece of dumpling dough. Knead the dumpling dough around it to form a round dumpling. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add a little salt. Add the dumplings to the boiling salted water, cook briefly, and then simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes. Dice the other two onions and fry them in a pan with the bacon. Place the finished dumplings on plates and top with the onion and bacon mixture. Serve with sour cream and a green salad. The Zeppelinas are still delicious the next day if sliced and fried. They’re a Lithuanian festive dish, very filling but super delicious! I hope I listed the ingredients correctly; otherwise, I go by feel.
