  • oil
  • 2 onions
  • ½ tube(s) tomato paste
  • 4 tsp Ethiopian spice mix (Berbere), recipe in the database

  • 1 pinch of salt
  • ½ liter of water

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Beef with onions, Ethiopian style

Cut the roulades into 2 cm wide and 5 cm long strips. Slice the onions into rings and halve them. Brown the meat in oil or kibe (Ethiopian butter). Add the onions and crushed or finely chopped garlic and fry. Add berbere (Ethiopian spice mix) and mix. Stir in the tomato paste and pour in the water. Simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Finally, season with ginger powder and salt to taste and serve on injera (Ethiopian flatbread). If it’s too spicy for someone, we recommend serving it with iab (granulated cream cheese).
