Tomato sauce with basil and thyme

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ¼ bunch thyme
  • ½ bunch basil
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 1 pinch(s) of sugar
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 onion(s)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Put a saucepan on the stovetop and sauté the finely diced onion and garlic for a while. Add the passata to the pan and simmer over medium heat. Pick the herbs from the stems and chop finely. You can also add them to the pan at the same time. Bring to a boil briefly and then remove the pan from the heat. Season with sugar, pepper, salt, and nutmeg. Let stand for 10-15 minutes and then simmer briefly again before using. Sauces usually taste better when reheated. If you like, you can add a little Parmesan cheese to the sauce; this will make it more flavorful and a little creamier.
